Kaffe Fassett Glorious Colour Knitting and Needlepoint, published 1988. Hardcover with a protective sleeve.
Wow! This book is crammed full of stunning, sumptuous knit and needlepoint patterns.
Glorious Colour is about inspiration: the inspiration that one gifted artist found in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. This lavish production contains over 230 colour photographs spanning Kaffe’s prodigious output since his textile work began in 1968.
His creative response to works in the V&A is evident in his 17 new designs – 13 knitting and four in needlepoint – featured in this book, complete with instructions and charts. As always, Kaffe encourages everyone who follows patterns to have a go at their own designs, often with stunning results, and in Glorious Colour he provides guidelines for those would-be designers finding their creative feet.
Basic motifs which prove eternally fascinating such as stars, diamonds, stripes, flowers and fauna are used to stimulate designs. Above all the sensual world of colour is unleashed in these pages. Pools of luminous blues and greens from the V&A’s Islamic collection inspired two knitted designs and a needlepoint star cushion. Deep rich jewel colours of Studio and Oriental Pottery inspired a luxurious knitted shawl in silk mohair and wool, while classic blue and white china becomes motifs for a fabulous coat and a needlepoint cushion.
